What slavery once was, poverty and marginalization are today
Slavery was once morally tolerated and even perceived to be a fair economic system for running a society. Ephesians 6:5–8 is a good illustration of the social acceptance and theological accommodation of slavery in the society since ancient times.
We however know now, that the injustices of slavery were embedded within systems of social stratification that characterised and still characterise society to this very day.
Like slavery, poverty and marginalization are sustained by structured social differentiation — based on class, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, and other similar intersecting hierarchies.
Just like the way slavery was once rationalized and later rejected, poverty and marginalization must now be confronted, dismantled, and replaced with a world view that centre dignity, justice, and inclusive economic empowerment.
KFSE would like to initiate this shift in thinking from one that accepts and tolerates extreme poverty and marginal status of some of us in the human family, to one that believes that all forms of poverty and catastrophic marginality are Morally & Socially Unacceptable.
